Just a heads up...

...I replied to your post in Forum:Using books as references.

Thanks for all your edits,

WHLfan (talk/contribs) 07:39, 17 July 2008 (UTC)

No problem, I'm enjoying it. And I got your note.
Cheers, Paulhassett 09:35, 17 July 2008 (UTC)
I'm glad you are enjoying your self, I am too. If there is any articles you see that you think are good enough to become known as a featured article, you can know nominate it!

Hi, Paul. I noticed you've been expanding Appearances lists in articles - thanks! Just remember to alphabetize lists.

Thanks again,

WHLfan (talk/contribs) 22:12, 21 July 2008 (UTC)

I see you've been doing a lot on this site this weekend. Thanks for all the help.Tomswift2002 12:35, 4 August 2008 (UTC)

Publication Dates

Paul, just so that you know, when you are inputting the publication dates for books on the wikia we spell out the month instead of using the metric version of the date. We find that for a lot of people it is just easier and quicker to read the date as, for example The Mystery in the Old Mine, August 1993, rather than the 1993-08-01. So when you are editing the publication dates, can you try and stick to spelling out the month and the year.

Thanks.Tomswift2002 12:39, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Okay. This loses the "day" part of the date however, shouldn't dates be written "1st August 1993"? I've added it to the main section in the mean time.
Paulhassett 12:51, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

With the date part, don't include it in the main section either, since with Simon & Schuster, while they may indicate a release date on the 1st of a month, the books have usually been out, in North America, usually by the middle of the prior month (if the book was scheduled for an August release, it might be out by the 20th of July) while some books haven't been released till later in the month. Plus, if you look at the copyright page of the books, you'll notice that they only go by the month year for when the publisher first published the book. Even right now with the Undercover Brothers, in North America, the books will be scheduled for a specific date on the web, but the new book will usually appear in stores 2-3 weeks before the date on the web.Tomswift2002 13:13, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Ah, okay. This should probably be reflected in the book page style manual.
Paulhassett 13:23, 5 August 2008 (UTC)
Probably should. Good suggestion Paul.
WHLfan (talk to me!) 17:56, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

It works!

Wow! It finally works! Thanks, Paul. Sam spade 18:51, 5 August 2008 (UTC)

Re: Defaultsort

Yeah, use it for articles that start with "The" or character articles that should be categorized last name first.

BTW, Thanks for the articles you made today.

WHLfan (talk to me!) 07:43, 11 August 2008 (UTC)

Your stub articles

Thanks for all the stub articles you made today, Paul!

I'd just like to tell you why I moved the "Name appears in Series Name X Book Title" to the top of the reference lists in those articles. Readability was the only reason, I just found this a bit hard to read:

The Hardy Boys #11 While the Clock Ticked
Willow River appears in The Hardy Boys #11 While the Clock Ticked
This article is a stub. You can help The Hardy Boys Wiki by expanding it.

But this is a bit easier to read:

Willow River appears in The Hardy Boys #11 While the Clock Ticked

The Hardy Boys #11 While the Clock Ticked
This article is a stub. You can help The Hardy Boys Wiki by expanding it.

Do see what I mean? Anyway, just letting you know why I did what I did.

BTW, if with stub articles you feel no more info can be added to the subject, feel free to remove the stub template, since, while the article is short it, unlike the template says, can not be expanded.

Here's an example of a "stub sized" I made but didn't tag as such, since I gave all the info from the book, and it therefore can not be expanded.

Mr. Franklin

Oh, yeah - one other thing, thanks for the mention of your blog.

WHLfan (talk to me!) 01:51, 15 August 2008 (UTC)

Yes, I did wonder about the formatting as I was putting the appearances section in. I wondered whether a box-out template would be appropriate for appearances, either at the bottom of the page or at the right-hand side as part of a more general information box. Here are a couple of examples from the Doctor Who wiki:

I take your point about stub articles. I also wondered about that while I was working.
Hope you enjoy the blog! Feel free to leave a comment, I sometimes wonder if anyone else is reading it!

Just wanted to thank you for your quality contribution to the wiki, as well as creating an article for Joe Hardy (Original). Also thanks citing your sources in your articles, it really help the credibility of the wiki.

Would you be interested in gaining admin abilities? Basically an admins job is to uphold the wiki's guidelines, deal with problem editors, and revert vandalism etc.

Let me know,

WHLfan (talk to me!) 00:49, 27 August 2008 (UTC)

Brilliant, I'd love to be an admin. Thanks for asking!
Paul Hassett 07:35, 27 August 2008 (UTC)
You are now an admin on The Hardy Boys Wiki!

Hurray! Let us hope, for all our sakes, that I use my powers for good, instead of evil!

Re: Year pages

Yeah,I've been thinking about this for awhile, and finally decided to go ahead with them, when I discovered a lot of other wiki have similar pages. Glad you like 'em.

BTW, I noticed your note you left on Sam's talk page. The reason you can't PM him, is you don't have enough posts. I think SkyWarp has the forum set up, so you can't send PMs until you have a minimum of 10 posts.

WHLfan (talk to me!) 06:38, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Re: Mr. Pizza's Forum

No problem, Paul! Have you contacted SkyWarp and told him about you're problem? He may be able to help. :) ==> Sam spade 06:39, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Oh, just saw WHLfan's post (we posted at about the same time) and he's probably right about that. I wouldn't know for sure, cause I have a lot of posts on MPF, so I can send PMs with no problem.
Anyway, I'd like to see you on there more. Always nice to have another person to talk to! :) ==> Sam spade 06:43, 8 September 2008 (UTC)
Thanks guys, that might make sense. I'll give it a try later.

Re: Aunt Gertrude

Hmmm, that's weird I don't know what happened there! I guess my mind got ahead of my typing, and I started on a new paragraph or something.

Re: Book stubs project

Yay for me! Yay for you! Yay for HBWiki! lol! Yeah, well I haven't made any stubs in a few months, so I thought I'd help out. 8) ==> Sam spade 08:36, 20 November 2008 (UTC)

Re: Campfire/Survival stories

How did that happen? Thanks for pointing that out, Paul!

Ad free

Hi! Would you like this wiki to be ad-free? I'm looking for wikis to be part of a new program which would remove all ads from the wiki for $19.95/month.
