Wilt is the owner of Wilt's Deli in Bridgeport.

History[]

Meeting the Hardy Boys[]

Wilt meets Frank and Joe for the first time as they enter his deli. Frank asks Wilt for two tubs of ice cream while Joe looks for peaches. When Wilt realizes that they're Laura’s kids, he gives his condolences and says that the ice cream and peaches are on the house.[1]

Biff enters Wilt’s Deli and purchases several items, including a map and shaving cream. She also pays for Joe’s sandwich. After she exits, Joe points out how dads are generally picky about the brand of shaving cream they use. Wilt reveals that Biff’s dad isn’t around, just her and her mother, Deputy Hooper.[2]

Frank arrives at the store for his first day at work while Wilt reads a novel. He tells Frank to start a fresh pot of coffee as he heads into back to finish his novel.[3]

The Day of Laura's Death[]

Frank asks Wilt if his mom came in for coffee the morning she died. Wilt admits that she did and that they talked. He could tell Laura was upset from the way she walked in that morning. He suspected that she had gotten into a fight with her mother.[4]

Wilt serves Callie and Chet breakfast. He mentions how they only have one more year of Bridgeport before they can leave and never look back.[5]

Words of Encouragement[]

Frank contemplates whether or not he should take the Rosegrave entry exam, as he isn't sure he wants to go. Wilt argues that Rosegrave would be an incredible opportunity for Frank, making him part of the elite. Frank retorts that he doesn’t trust his grandma, and therefore doesn’t trust her school of choice.[6]

BTS Brownies[]

Callie, Chet, Biff, and Phil order their annual back to school brownies. They come to Wilt's and stuff their faces with brownies and ice cream to lament the loss of yet another summer. Wilt tells Frank to take an early break and join his friends.[7]

Joe arrives at Wilt’s in search of his jacket. Wilt reveals that he hung it up on the rack. Later, Wilt takes Frank and Stacy's order, though Frank insists that he isn't hungry.[8]

Wilt makes friendly conversation with JB at the deli about the old ways and how the world has evolved. JB claims that he’s thinking of moving to Bridgeport and manipulates Wilt into telling him about the Nabokovs and their address.[9]

Helping the Gang[]

A desk sergeant stops by Wilt's Deli while he's closing up and asks Wilt if he’s seen Frank. Wilt claims he hasn’t. He then shuts the door and tells Frank, Joe, Chet, Biff, and Phil that they can come out now. He says that they can use the place for as long as they need so long as they don’t drink all his soda.[10]

Personality and traits[]

Wilt is a kind older man who has watched most of the kids of Bridgeport. He often treats them to items in his store and even hides them from police.
